For many new drivers, tires can seem completely invincible. They take quite a beating on a daily basis, between potholes and other roadside obstacles. Unfortunately, all of this wear and tear has a result, and if you’re not careful, you could end up stranded with a flat tire on the side of the road. Fortunately, by preparing ahead of time, you can get yourself unstuck in no time.

In order to change a flat tire, you’ll need to at least have a jack, a wrench, an air compressor, and an air pressure gauge. With the jack, lift the car so that the tires are roughly six inches off the ground. Now that the vehicle is raised, use the wrench to remove the lug nuts that secure the hub cap and the tire. With the flat removed, it’s time to check your spare. Spare tires spend quite a long time in the back of your car, and there is no telling if they’ve retained their air pressure. If the spare tire is below recommended levels, fill it up using the air compressor, and then install it to your axel.

With the spare installed, you’re ready to get rolling again. However, we highly recommend that you head over to a trained mechanic as soon as possible.
